Fixture Installation and Repair That Holds

You don't need a licensed plumber for most plumbing fixture work. Swapping out a leaky faucet, installing a new bathroom vanity fixture, or replacing a showerhead are exactly the kind of jobs The Local Handyman LLC has been handling across the northwest Chicago suburbs since 2016. Three Google reviews, all five stars. The work speaks for itself. Call (773) 444-7153 and we'll figure out what your fixture needs.

What drives the cost on fixture installation is usually access, not the fixture itself. A straightforward kitchen faucet swap under an open cabinet is quick. A tub faucet buried behind tile, or a fixture on older supply lines that haven't been touched in thirty years, takes more time to do without creating a bigger problem. We'll look at the setup honestly and tell you what's involved before we start. Every job is different, contact The Local Handyman LLC for an accurate estimate. And if a dripping faucet is just one item on a longer list, we handle general home repairs and full home improvement projects too.

What We Install and Repair

01

Kitchen Faucet Replacement

Old faucet leaking at the base or the handle is loose? We disconnect the supply lines, pull the old fixture, and set the new one properly so it doesn't move. If the shutoff valves under the sink are stuck or corroded, we flag that before we turn anything off.

02

Bathroom Faucet and Vanity Fixtures

Single-handle, two-handle, widespread. We've installed them all. The tricky part is usually the drain assembly and the supply line clearance inside the cabinet. We get it right the first time so you're not calling us back about a slow drip two weeks later.

03

Showerhead and Tub Faucet Work

A dripping tub faucet wastes more water than most people realize, and it doesn't fix itself. We replace cartridges, swap out showerheads, and handle full tub spout replacements. Fixtures that sit behind tile are a different conversation. We'll look at it and tell you honestly what's involved.

04

Toilet Fixture Repairs

Running toilets, wobbly seats, fill valve failures. These are quick fixes that most homeowners put off too long. We replace the internal components or the whole fixture depending on the age and condition. A toilet that runs all night is costing you money every month.

05

Water Fixture Repair

Not every call is an installation. Sometimes the fixture is fine and the problem is a worn washer, a cracked supply line, or a loose connection. We diagnose it, fix what actually needs fixing, and we won't recommend replacing something that still has years left in it.

How It Works

Three Steps From Call to Clean Sink

We keep the process simple because you've got enough to think about.

  1. 01

    Call and Describe the Job

Tell us what fixture you're dealing with and roughly how old the home is. That gives us a realistic picture before we show up. Older supply lines and corroded shutoffs change the scope of a job, and we'd rather know upfront.

  2. 02

We Assess and Get to Work

We check the shutoffs, the supply lines, and the drain assembly before touching the fixture. If something we find would change the estimate, we tell you before we proceed. No surprises mid-job.

  3. 03

    Clean Up, Test, Done

We run the water, check for leaks at every connection, and clean up the work area before we leave. The cabinet under your sink shouldn't look worse than when we arrived.

Do You Need a Plumber or a Handyman?

kitchen faucet replacement work, professional service in Schaumburg, IL
Honest answer: most fixture work doesn't need a licensed plumber. Faucet replacements, showerhead swaps, toilet repairs, and fixture installations are within what a skilled handyman crew handles every week. Where you genuinely need a plumber is when the job involves moving supply lines, cutting into walls, or replacing drain rough-in that's inside the floor or slab. We'll tell you which category your job falls into. If it's something we can't do right, we'll say so. We've been doing this since 2016 and we're not going to take on a job that's outside our scope just to collect a check. For work that pairs with fixture installation, we also handle clogged drain repairs and broader standard plumbing repairs across the area.

What to Expect

What a Proper Fixture Install Actually Covers

  1. 01

    Shutoff Valve Check

We confirm the valves under the sink or behind the toilet actually shut off fully. A stuck valve is a problem you want to know about before you need it in an emergency.

  2. 02

    Supply Line Inspection

Old braided or plastic supply lines crack. If they're past their service life, we tell you.

  3. 03

    Fixture Set and Seal

We set the fixture level, torque the mounting hardware to spec, and apply the right sealant where the fixture meets the deck. Over-tightening cracks the sink; under-tightening leaks at the base.

  4. 04

Full Leak Test Before We Leave

We run hot and cold, check every connection, and watch for any weeping at the supply lines and drain. The job isn't done until everything holds under pressure.

A Few Things We Won't Do

Nine years in this business has taught us where the line is.

We don't upsell replacements when a repair is the right call. We won't tackle jobs that require permits or licensed plumbing work and then hand you a problem. And we won't quote one price over the phone and show up with a different number unless the scope actually changed once we got eyes on it.
No upselling repairs into replacements
If the fixture can be fixed, we fix it.
No work outside our scope
Moving supply lines or rough-in is licensed plumber territory. We'll say so.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a plumber to install a faucet?
For a straight faucet swap where the supply lines and shutoffs are already in place, no. A handyman with the right experience handles it without issue. You'd need a licensed plumber if you're moving supply lines, changing the rough-in location, or working on anything inside the wall or under the slab. We'll tell you which category your job is in before we start.
What is a plumbing fixture, exactly?
Fixtures are the pieces that connect your home's water supply to actual use: faucets, showerheads, toilets, tub spouts, vanity fixtures, and similar. They're separate from the pipes behind the walls. Most fixture work is accessible without opening drywall, which is why it's a common handyman job rather than a full plumbing call.
Why is my bath faucet still dripping after I replaced the cartridge?
A few possibilities. The replacement cartridge may not be the right model for your valve body, which is a more common mistake than people think. The seat or O-ring inside the valve body may be worn and preventing a proper seal. And if the faucet is very old, the valve body itself may be corroded beyond what a cartridge swap can fix. We can diagnose it and tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
How long does a typical faucet installation take?
A clean kitchen or bathroom faucet swap on accessible supply lines usually runs one to two hours. Tub faucets take longer, especially if the access panel is hard to reach or the valve body is older. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when we see the setup. The goal is always to finish the job the same visit, not leave you without water overnight.
My bathroom tub faucet is leaking from the spout even when the shower is off. What's causing that?
That's almost always a worn cartridge or diverter valve. The diverter is what routes water between the tub spout and the showerhead, and when it fails it can't hold pressure fully in either direction. On older single-handle fixtures, the cartridge handles both functions. We replace the failing component rather than the whole fixture, unless the valve body itself is corroded past the point of repair.
Can you install a fixture I already purchased, or do you supply the parts?
Both. If you've already bought the fixture, we'll install it. If you want us to source it, we can do that too, and we'll make sure the model we bring is compatible with your existing supply lines and mounting configuration. One thing worth knowing: not all budget fixtures are built to hold up. If you're on the fence about a particular brand, ask us before you buy.
