Three fields. It reaches a person here, not a call centre.
Painting that holds up for years
Good painting is mostly prep work. That's the part most crews rush, and it's exactly why paint peels in two years instead of ten. At The Local Handyman LLC, we've been doing interior and exterior painting for homeowners across the northwest suburbs since 2016, and the prep never gets skipped. If you've got rooms to refresh, trim to freshen up, or an exterior that's looking worn, call us at (773) 444-7153 and we'll take a look.
What drives the cost of a painting job? Room count, ceiling height, surface condition, and whether drywall repair or patching is needed before we ever open a can. Exterior work adds siding type, surface area, and how many stories we're dealing with. A single-room interior refresh runs very differently than a full-house exterior repaint. Every job is different, contact The Local Handyman LLC for an accurate estimate.
What we cover on a painting job
Interior Painting
Walls, ceilings, trim, doors. We prep the surface, protect your floors and furniture, and leave the room clean. No half-done edges or roller marks on the ceiling.
Exterior Painting
Siding, fascia, soffits, doors, shutters. We pressure-clean the surface first and spot-prime anything that's chalking or peeling before we apply the top coat.
Trim and Accent Work
Crown molding, baseboards, window casings. Sharp lines make the room. We tape and cut carefully instead of relying on caulk to hide sloppy edges.
Drywall Prep and Patching
Holes, cracks, and dings get filled and sanded flat before paint goes on. Painting over a bad surface just makes the surface look worse. We fix it first.
Remodel Finish Painting
If we're already doing a kitchen remodeling or bathroom job, the painting is part of it. One crew, one schedule, no coordinating a separate contractor.
How we work
The prep is where most jobs succeed or fail
- 01
Surface prep
We clean, scrape, sand, patch, and prime before any finish coat goes on. Interior surfaces get filled and sanded smooth. Exterior surfaces get power-washed and spot-primed.
- 02
Protection and masking
Floors get covered, furniture gets moved or wrapped, and everything that shouldn't get paint on it gets masked. We don't cut corners on protection and then charge you to fix the overspray.
- 03
Paint application and cleanup
We apply finish coats to spec, check edges under light before we call it done, and clean up completely before we leave. You shouldn't have to clean up after us.
Interior vs. exterior: different jobs, different rules
Why it matters
Five things that separate a good paint job from one that fails
- 01
Primer isn't optional
Bare drywall, patched areas, and any surface changing color significantly needs primer. Skipping it is how you get blotchy coverage and a finish that wears out in two years.
- 02
Two coats is the minimum
One coat over a light color can look fine on day one. Six months later it starts looking thin. We don't tell you two coats is standard and then apply one and a half.
- 03
Sheen selection affects cleanability
Flat looks great on ceilings and low-traffic walls. Eggshell or satin belongs in kitchens, bathrooms, and anywhere someone will eventually wipe the wall. We'll tell you which is right for each room.
- 04
Caulk before paint, not instead of paint
Gaps between trim and wall get caulked and sanded smooth before we paint. Painting over an open gap just means the paint cracks at the gap in six months.

What our customers say
Jacob did an incredible job installing a new light fixture for us. He was communicative throughout the process and also took the time to explain some other projects he could help us with around the house. We will definitely be calling him again for our next job. Highly recommend!
We had a great experience with this handyman. He was professional, punctual, and clearly knew what he was doing. The work was completed carefully and efficiently, and he made sure everything was clean when finished. He communicated well throughout the job and charged a fair price. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for reliable home repairs or improvements.
